This post is all about balcony garden ideas to help you create the space of your dreams.
Have you ever had a million ideas of what you wanted swirling around your head at one time? Who doesn’t love a home and garden show? The problem is you have too many choices or the inability to settle on one theme. Let’s get to working on those balcony garden ideas right now.
1. Seating Ideas
Balconies are beautiful! The best way to enjoy your balcony is to actually sit on your balcony, relax, and enjoy the view. Now, you have to figure out what do you want to make up your seating combination.
You want to start with a comfortable chair. You may want to spend a quiet evening outside with a glass of wine and a book in a good chair. Look for something with an adequate cushion and a good backrest. You can opt for a small table for 2 or something bigger if you like to entertain.
Accent your area with a rug, pillows, and even a nice, fluffy throw.
2. Balcony Planter Ideas
You will see a ton of these at your local big-box store. You can hang these on the edge of your balcony or come up with a design all your own. Planters are versatile!
You may decide to have one planter full of flowers that are one color. You can always add vines, dwarf bushes, or any combination of flowers.
3. Balcony Shelf
Sometimes you want a mixture of plants and don’t quite know how to arrange them on your balcony. This is where a shelf comes in handy.
In the Spring, big-box retailers tend to sell herbs or a variety of small plants that you may not want sitting on the floor of your balcony. In a case like this, you would want to invest in a shelf. You could arrange the shelf with herbs, succulents, and anything else that will fit on the shelf.
Since this is your sanctuary, you would probably benefit from adding books, a charging station, or your favorite vase. The possibilities are endless! This is your area so be as creative as you want!
4.Pots
What is a balcony without a pretty potted plant? You have choices between ceramic, terra cotta, hanging, self-watering, plastic, and the choices are endless.

The style of pot is your choice is totally up to you. However, you want to pick a pot that is similar in size to the current pot (unless it states something different on the plant tag). When the plant has outgrown that pot, you want to transfer it to something 3-5 inches bigger.
You can arrange pots on the floor, table, or shelf on your balcony. You may find yourself switching up your style and changing your layout periodically. That’s fine! It’s your space.
